apartment fiasco.

today.was.insane.
it had it's good parts.
but overall.....insane.

i went across the city to meet up with a friend tonight. i got on a bus and went quickly to the back (as usual, less crowded).... i was enjoying my ride and then two men started screaming at each other in the front of the bus... the driver kept driving and then the bus swerved a little and i realized it was the bus driver and another man arguing... he stopped (on a busy street) and made the man get out. but it wasn't that easy. they continued screaming at each other, stopped in the middle of this street, cars honking with no room to pass.... they screamed a good minute or two before the bus driver was successful in forcing him off of the bus... so we took off, made it about a minute before the bus came to a screeching halt. the driver gets out, on the side of the highway this time, and sits on the curb. as he gets off, everyone on the bus applauded. i'm thinking "what the heck just happened" and "GET BACK ON THE BUS, I WANT TO GO HOME!" he sat on the curb for a minute or two before a guy pried the back doors open and i slipped out and caught another bus... AH!

that was nothing compared to the fiasco at my house, though...

i came home to some loud music playing out in my neighborhood somewhere... it's not abnormal, but it sounded like a concert. then, i hear a woman screaming outside my door... so i run to the peephole and see the woman run out of one elevator and a man run in the other... she ran in and tried to hit him and then he pulled her by her hair... my neighbors across the hall came and pulled them apart as he escaped down one elevator... the woman stayed on our floor LOUDLY recounting what happened (to my neighbor).... i didn't understand it, being on the other side of the door, but they said "çok ayip" (very shameful) many times before the woman went back downstairs... about 30 seconds later, i hear her screaming again and realize she is now outside... we look outside to find our kapıcı (the man in the story--our doorman) and about 6 other people out there all screaming at eachother...

they were outside screaming for at least 15 minutes before a few of the men and a woman left. the woman did NOT want to leave and kept trying to get our kapıcı....

meanwhile, april and i are watching from our balcony and we look down to see our neighbors on their balcony and over to the left to see our next door neighbors on theirs. and then our english speaking neighbor upstairs asks us from her balcony what happened... then we look to the right to see neighbors in the next building hanging out their window too... quite a scene. the funny thing is that once our neighbors next door noticed us they waved enthusiastically... i about died laughing...

while all of this fighting is going on, there are fireworks exploding and the music is getting louder and people are chanting... followed later by cars flying by, honking, with flags and people hanging out the window... priceless...

we thought it ended with our kapıcı and the woman who seems to have caused the shenanigan standing several feet apart... they were out there arguing from time to time for about 30 minutes or 45 minutes...

until we heard a cab pull up....

but she wouldn't get in it... so about 20 minutes later another cab came, and after a short dispute all 4 of them got in the cab and left. the end. whew!

wait, it's not the end... about 20 minutes later, they came back... & so did the cops...

they stayed for a while, taking statement from the drunk guys in the park....

then they left, followed by 4 of the main characters in the story (in their little white car...)... the end, or so we think..

april and i (april mostly) have many ideas of what could have caused this ruckus... perhaps she is one of his wives and she's pregnant? perhaps she cheated on him and brought a great shame... april thinks it was a previous wife whose brothers brought her back to him and he didn't want her either..... oh, istanbul...
